The Kaisergalerie is a remarkable jewel in the heart of Hamburg city centre. Today, the exclusively located Kontorhaus is home to high-quality retail and office space in a historic setting. Thanks to extensive and carefully planned revitalisation measures, the listed building dating from the early twentieth century was transformed, in accordance with designs by David Chipperfield Architects, into a light-filled passage lined with high-quality shops. The modern office space on the upper floors also benefits from the building’s unique character.

Exten­sive revitalisation

Built between 1907 and 1909, the Kaisergalerie retains many of its original stylistic features. The historic columns, coffered ceilings and wall panelling have been carefully integrated in keeping with the original style and skilfully combined with modern features, both structurally and technically.

The historic façade incorporates a number of intriguing details, including the head of Hermes as a symbol of trade.

Along the Bleichenfleet, the Kaisergalerie is accessed via a generous promenade walkway leading from the Alsterhaus to Bleichenbrücke.

The differentiated façade design of the listed Kontorhaus, built to plans by architect Emil Grossner, is once again shown to particularly striking effect today.
