Frankenquai

Hamburg

The seven-storey “Frankenquai” office building is located in Hamburg’s City Süd, an area that is becoming increasingly popular as an office location. The simple yet strikingly colourful building also occupies an attractive waterside location on the Mittelkanal. By orienting the building appropriately and incorporating a very high proportion of glazing, Hamburg-based architectural practice Bernd Leusmann created exceptionally bright and welcoming office spaces. The interior colour scheme complements this understated sense of openness while also introducing carefully considered splashes of colour.

The building’s exterior envelope, by contrast, stands out confidently from its surroundings in a vivid red. The architects opted not only for a strikingly vibrant colour, but also for an unusual façade cladding made of tinted glass. The same cladding was used for the waterside balcony bands, whose coloured transparency creates a particularly striking effect.
