The 29,000 m² site was to be transformed into a multifunctional urban district comprising housing, offices, restaurants, bars, shops, a hotel and an experiential brewery. The entire site was divided into five development plots, for which invited competitions were held with a high-calibre field of participants. David Chipperfield, Jörg Friedrich, Mecanoo, Steidle und Partner, Störmer Murphy and Partners GbR, Axthelm Frinken Architekten and Herzog und Partner emerged as the winners.
